Marcus Stoinis smashed 59 not out off 18 balls to take Australia over the line.

Marcus Stoinis | GettyMarcus Stoinis put on a show with the bat in Australia’s comprehensive seven-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in a T20 World Cup 2022 encounter at Perth on Tuesday (October 25).

Chasing 158 to win, Australia lost veteran opener David Warner (11) cheaply. While skipper Aaron Finch anchored the innings and held one end firmly, Mitchell Marsh (17) and Glenn Maxwell (23) with handy cameos to take the hosts to 89/3 after 12.2 overs.

With 69 needed off 46 balls, Stoinis arrived in the middle and took the Sri Lankan attack to the cleaners right from the outset. The all-rounder notched up his half-century in just 17 balls – the fastest by an Australian in the shortest format.

Stoinis made the mockery of Sri Lankan bowlers and remained unbeaten on 59 off 18 balls to take Australia over the line in just 16.3 overs. On the other hand, captain Finch returned with 31 not out off 42 balls.
