India and Pakistan clashed in the high voltage T20 world Cup match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on October 23rd. India won the toss and chose to bowl first to get the advantage of the fresh pitch and overcast conditions.
Both teams came into this matchup with varying degrees of success. Pakistan lost to England at home in the seven-T20I series but won the T20I tri-series in New Zealand, which also featured Bangladesh.
India, on the other hand, came into this match with 2-1 T20I series wins at home against Australia and South Africa.
Meanwhile, both the teams lined up for the national anthems just before the game began and when the turn came for India’s ‘Jana Gana Mana’, captain Rohit Sharma was captured by the camera tearing up while singing the anthem.
This is Rohit Sharma’s 8th T20 World Cup, one of the few players to have played in all editions of the tournament, but it is the first time he is captaining India in the event.
