Namibia suffered a heartbreaking seven-run defeat at the hands of UAE in their last qualifying round match of the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Geelong on Thursday (October 20).
Opting to bat first, UAE posted 148/3 on the board with key contributions from Muhammad Waseem (50 off 41) and skipper Chundangapoyil Rizwan (43* off 29 balls).
In reply, David Wiese tried his best to get Namibia over the line but his half-century (55 off 36 balls) went in vain as UAE restricted them to 146/9.
Namibia needed 14 off the last over but Muhammad Waseem conceded only six runs and claimed the prized scalp of Wiese on the fourth delivery to put a final nail in the coffin.
With this loss, Namibia were also knocked out of T20 World Cup 2022 and David Wiese couldn’t control his emotions after the match. Cameras caught the all-rounder breaking down in tears while sitting in the dugout.
