The ICC T20 World Cup 2022 qualifying round got underway in Geelong on October 16 with Namibia scoring an upset win over Asia Cup champions Sri Lanka. In the second match of the day, UAE clashed against the Netherlands.
Choosing to bat first after winning the toss, UAE could only muster 111/8 in their 20 overs with Muhammad Waseem top-scoring with 41 runs. For the Netherlands, Bas de Leede returned with three wickets.
While their innings were not that much to write about, one funny incident happened on the penultimate ball of the innings as batter Aayan Afzal Khan, who at 16 years and 335 days became the youngest to play in a T20 World Cup, tripped over the boundary rope after being dismissed by Fred Klaassen for 5 off 7 balls.
