The auction for the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League or the IPL 2023 will reportedly be held in Bengaluru on December 16, a report in Times of India stated. Also, this auction will be a mini-auction, unlike the last auction which was a big one.
The salary purse at the IPL 2022 mega auction was INR 90 crore, but for IPL-2023 it could be Rs 95 crore, INR 5 crore more. The purse can further swell if a franchise releases its players or trades them.
The IPL 2023 will feature 10 teams and the league stage matches will go back to a home-and-away format after three years, which is likely to start from the last week of March.
Sourav Ganguly set to be back as the president of Cricket Association of Bengal
“The next season of men’s IPL will also go back to the home-and-away format with all the 10 teams playing their home matches at their designated venues,” BCCI’s outgoing president Sourav Ganguly had mentioned in his letter to state associations on September 22.
Due to the Covid pandemic, the IPL was limited to a few venues only in the last three years, with UAE hosting the entire tournament in 2020 and partially in 2021. BCCI attempted to host the IPL 2021 in India, but the second wave of the pandemic led to UAE hosting the second half.
The IPL 2022 was hosted in India, but at four venues across Maharashtra.
