Washington Sundar has been dealing with frequent injuries, and that has also hampered his chances of cementing his place in the Indian cricket team across the formats.

He had recently recovered from an injury and made a comeback in county cricket, but yet again suffered an injury – a shoulder niggle – which could put his chances of making it to the Zimbabwe flight for the upcoming three-match ODI series, starting on August 18, at risk.

Sundar wasn’t considered for the Asia Cup 2022 and now reportedly, he has zero chances of making it to the India squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022.

Meanwhile, a member of the Indian selection committee revealed that they prefer R Ashwin over Sundar for the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.

It is also being said that Sundar has been informed that he isn't in consideration for the T20 World Cup 2022 and will have to wait for his chance, as Ravindra Jadeja, Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravi Bishnoi, and Akshar Patel are ahead of him for selection.

A member of the selection committee told InsideSport: “He (Washington Sundar) is a great asset for India team. But at the moment, he needs to work on his fitness and wait for his chance.”

He added, “We have spoken to him about T20 World Cup. Ashwin will be preferred in Australia. Washington will be a backup in case of injury in T20s for now.”

Sundar is presently playing for Lancashire in County Cricket. The spin-bowling all-rounder needs to prove his fitness before being considered for selection in India's T20 squad again.
