The ICC T20 World Cup 2022 is just over two months away and participating teams have already begun their preparations and are trying to find out the right combination for the ICC event in Australia.

India has plenty of spin options in Yuzvendra Chahal, R Ashwin, Ravi Bishnoi, Washington Sundar, Akshar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav, and it will be tough for the selectors to select among them.

Well, the Indian team management surprised many with their decision to back R Ashwin in the ongoing five-match T20I series against West Indies, especially when the team is looking for the right team combination for the T20 World Cup 2022, as he wasn’t often been picked in the T20I side. He has so far played three T20Is on the Caribbean tour and taken 3 wickets.

Many are discarding Ashwin for the T20 World Cup, but his regular selection in India’s playing XI hints at a different way and veteran Pakistani cricketer Kamran Akmal feels the off-spinner has a great chance to make it to India’s squad for the upcoming mega event.

Kamran Akmal said in a video on his YouTube channel: “Ravichandran Ashwin is a proven campaigner and his form ahead of the T20 World Cup is a positive sign for Indian cricket. He impressed once again with his variations.”

He added, “He has a lot of experience playing T20 cricket and is a matchwinner. It adds to the confidence of the team when you have someone like Ravichandran Ashwin to bowl in the middle overs.”
