"People hated it, we're past that": Eoin Morgan on The Hundred league

The second edition of The Hundred got underway on 3rd August.

When The Hundred league was introduced by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), it invited a lot of criticism. With the tournament having a unique set of rules, many lashed out at the governing body for spoiling the rules of the game.

But as it turned out, slowly people developed an interest in the league and eventually it was a big success, which paved way for the second edition to take place.

Former England skipper Eoin Morgan said that people hated The Hundred when it was introduced but they have now passed that test.

"Last year was the ultimate test. People hated it. Hated it. Like you couldn't believe. I couldn't believe it. So, we're past that,” Eoin Morgan was quoted as saying.

Recently, 17-year-old Alice Capsey played a staggering knock to take England women to the semi-finals of the CWG 2022.

Calling her the find of The Hundred, Morgan said that the tournament is "the biggest positive" for England cricket and it’s quite evident what a tournament like this can do to a sport.

"I think we saw a huge amount of evidence last year when it came to the power of what a tournament like this can do for the sport.

"It's the sport across the board: we can be very selfish and talk about the men's game all the time, but actually the biggest positive of last year was the growth of the women's game, and the level of attention it attracted was extraordinary,” he said.

The second edition of the Men’s Hundred started on August 3, with Southern Brave defeating Welsh Fire in the curtain raiser. Morgan will be leading London Spirit in this edition. He has reunited with coach Trevor Bayliss. The duo together helped England win the Cricket World Cup 2019.
