Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh expressed his happiness after his side defeated New Zealand in the final to lift the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 at Dubai.

Australia thumped New Zealand by 8 wickets to lift their first-ever T20 World Cup. Choosing to bowl first after winning the toss, Aaron Finch-led side bowled tight lines upfront but the shift in gears from Black Caps skipper Kane Williamson put them under tremendous pressure.

Even though Josh Hazlewood returned with the figures of 3/16 but Williamson’s brutal knock of 85 runs helped New Zealand post the target of 172 runs on the board.

Chasing the target, Australia didn’t have a great start as they lost skipper Aaron Finch for just 5 runs. The wicket of Finch was a blessing in disguise for them as Mitchell Marsh came out all guns blazing and along with David Warner smashed New Zealand bowlers all over the park for a 92-run second-wicket partnership.

While Warner perished after scoring the half-century, Mitchell Marsh continued with his carnage and remained unbeaten on 77 runs to take his team to the title victory.

Marsh, who was awarded player of the match, expressed his joy after playing a brilliant knock. He revealed that coaching staff came up to him during the West Indies series and told him that he’ll bat at No.3.

"Lot of people say this but I really don't have words right now. An amazing six weeks with this group. The coaching staff came up to me in the West Indies and said you'll bat three for this tournament/series. Absolutely jumped at the idea of that. Done a little bit of that for the Scorchers," Mitchell Marsh said.

Mitchell Marsh further thanked support for backing him. He talked about his first ball six and remarked that he wanted to go out and have a presence.

"I must thank everyone in the support staff for backing me. Not a whole lot of thinking that goes into that (first ball for six). Just wanted to go out there and have a presence. Big Marcus Stoinis always talks about having a presence," he said.

With an 8-wicket win over New Zealand, Australia lifted their 8th ICC trophy.
