T20 World Cup 2021: Abu Dhabi stadium curator Mohan Singh passes away ahead of the NZ v AFG match- Reports

The curator of the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi, Mohan Singh passed away on November 7, 2021, before the match between New Zealand and Afghanistan which went underway in the afternoon.

The Indian resident in his mid-40's, had prepared wickets for the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021 in Abu Dhabi stadium, where India defeated Afghanistan to register their maiden win in the tournament after two losses.  

The cause of the death is not immediately known but it has led to an investigation by the local police. Cricbuzz confirmed that ICC had used the services of an Indian-origin curator for the global event.

As per news report, Mohan came to Abu Dhabi in September 2004 after training to be a curator in India at the Punjab Cricket Stadium in Mohali, where he had been employed since 1994, first as a ground supervisor as well assisting the coaches in a number of sports including tennis and swimming before his focus moved on to cricket.

He took up the offer to be the curator at the Abu Dhabi cricket stadium despite having other options of working in Uganda and India as well.
