Former Indian cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra has named the player without whom the Indian cricket team looks half and he also hailed him as India’s "insurance policy" after the team’s dominant show in the last two games in the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021.
During India’s 8-wicket win over Scotland, Ravindra Jadeja (3/15) and KL Rahul (50 off 19 balls) may have been the star performers for the Men in Blue on Friday, November 5, but for Chopra, it was Jasprit Bumrah, who impressed the former cricketer most in Dubai.
Well, Bumrah is already a vital cog of India’s bowling attack and he proved that on many occasions, and even, he was the only Indian bowler who scalped 2 wickets against New Zealand in the losing cause. In another crucial game for India, Bumrah gave India the breakthrough, returning with impressive figures of 2/10 in 3.4 overs against Scotland, leaving Chopra in awe of him.
Chopra said on his YouTube channel: “Let's be honest, if this team suddenly looks half after removing just one player, it's not Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, or Virat Kohli, but that guy is Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah is our insurance policy. Bumrah gave India an amazing start.”
He continued, “Bumrah's story these days is that he either bowls the yorker or the slower one. He is exceptional, without doubt, but I still feel that some bowling can be done on a length, something that he can do but he is not doing at the moment.”
The commentator signed off by saying, “When Jasprit Bumrah and Jadeja work together, it feels you should not take any tension because you have kept a stranglehold on the batters. R Ashwin also bowled well, there is no doubt about that.”
