The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly, Secretary Jay Shah, and other senior officials reportedly want VVS Laxman to take up the role of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) head after Rahul Dravid was appointed new Team India head coach.

Ganguly, former Indian captain, has always been vocal about the need to have former cricketers in the system to help the players and the game grow and even the BCCI President recently managed to convince Dravid to take up the role of India’s next head coach, as Ravi Shastri’s tenure is set to end after the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 in the UAE.

Now, Ganguly along with Shah and other officials want Laxman to become NCA head so that the Dravid-Laxman partnership can continue for Indian cricket.

Sources told ANI, “Sourav and Jay both would love to have Laxman take up the NCA role. But yes, the final call lies with the former India cricketer as he has a young family also.”

He further added, “He is undoubtedly a front runner for the role and not to forget how he has been known to share a special bond with now coach Dravid.”

The sources concluded, “It will be the perfect combination to have those two work together towards taking Indian cricket forward. Nothing like having former cricketers coming on board to help produce the next generation of stars.”
