Afghanistan captain Mohammad Nabi was left to lament the loss of early wickets after his team’s 66-run loss to India in their Super 12s contest of the ongoing ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi on Wednesday (November 3).
Nabi rued Afghanistan’s failure to bat well against Team India, as they lost three wickets for just 48 runs inside 7 overs to put themselves under pressure while chasing the mammoth total of 221 runs and eventually fell 66 runs short of the target on Wednesday in Abu Dhabi.
Mohammad Shami snared three wickets while R Ashwin took two wickets on his white-ball comeback, as Afghanistan could manage only 144/7 in 20 overs to give the Indian cricket team its first win in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2021. Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja also returned with one wicket apiece for India.
At the moment, Afghanistan is still on the second spot on the table with 4 points in Group 2 and will play their last Super 12s match of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021 against New Zealand on Sunday, November 7, in Abu Dhabi and the skipper is hoping to win their last match in the global event.
Nabi said during the post-match presentation: “We usually bat first, we tried to chase due to the dew. Also, the wicket looked really good. Yeah, there wasn't much dew, but the wicket played really good. India batted really well and put us under pressure. Not always, we try to rotate strike a bit too. Today we didn't do well enough but we lost early wickets and that put us under pressure. Hopefully, we can win our last game.”
