Playing his farewell match in the ongoing T20 World Cup, former Afghanistan skipper Asghar Afghan received a guard of honour from the Namibia players and his teammates in Abu Dhabi on Sunday (October 31).
The 33-year-old scored 31 off 23 balls in his last outing for Afghanistan. His knock was studded with 3 fours and 1 six.
Asghar Afghan came into bat in the 10th over after Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s dismissal. Upon his arrival in the middle, Namibia players formed two lines to give him a guard of honour.
After he got out in the penultimate over, Asghar's teammates formed two lines and salute him by raising the bat.
Asghar Afghan was visibly emotional while speaking to the broadcasters during the innings break.
“I want to give chance to youngsters now. It is the right time for the youngsters come forward. Most of the people asked to continue till the end of the tournament. But I thought this is the right time after the loss in the last game. There are plenty of memories. This is tough for me,” he said.
Asghar Afghan represented Afghanistan in 6 Tests, 115 ODIs, and 75 T20Is after making his international debut in 2009. He amassed 440 runs in the longest format and 2467 runs in ODIs while he scored 1358 runs in the shortest version of the game.
