Legendary Indian batter and commentator VVS Laxman has pointed out three important lessons that the Indian cricket team can learn from their embarrassing 10-wicket loss to Pakistan in their opening game in the ongoing ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021 on October 24 in Dubai.
Team India was hammered by Pakistan in a World Cup match for the first time in nearly three decades after Virat Kohli-led side failed to defend a below-par total of 151/7 despite playing with 5 bowlers in the high-voltage clash at ICC T20 World Cup 2021 on Sunday in Dubai.
Following India’s big loss to Pakistan, Laxman has mentioned that the Indian bowlers did not bowl according to the conditions on offer in Dubai while stressing that the Men in Blue must capitalize on the powerplay both with the bat and ball in the tournament.
Laxman said on the Star Sports show Follow The Blues: “I think the three important lessons from this match would be not to lose wickets early on, especially in the powerplay.”
He further explained, “That’s very critical, you want to capitalize on the powerplay and make use of the fielding restrictions. The second lesson is, like batting, you don't want to lose wickets, and while bowling, you are required to pick up wickets and that's very critical, especially if you're defending a par score or probably a below-par score.”
The commentator concluded, “The third thing will be the length of the bowlers. When you're looking to pick up wickets it's important to use your variations. But, I just felt that the bowlers bowled a bit short and they didn’t bowl to the conditions which were on offer.”
