India captain Virat Kohli was surprised by a bizarre question in the post-match presentation after a 10-wicket loss against Pakistan in the 2021 T20 World Cup. One of the journalists in the presser asked Kohli if they should have included Ishan Kishan in the playing XI ahead of Rohit Sharma.
Kohli was surprised by the suggestion and his expression was enough for an answer. He reminded the journo that Rohit is one of the core members of the Indian cricket team due to his consistent performance.
"It’s a very brave question. What do you think, sir?", said Kohli. "I played the team that I thought was the best. What is your opinion? Will you drop Rohit Sharma from T20 internationals? You’ll drop Rohit Sharma? Do you know what he did in the last game that we played? Yeah?
"Unbelievable. Sir, if you want controversy, then tell me before I will answer accordingly," the India captain added.
Indian cricket fraternity on Twitter reacted to Kohli's response to the question demeaning Rohit's contribution to the team.
Famous columnist Ayaz Memon, sports presenter Gaurav Kapur, ex-India cricketer Aakash Chopra, and Kolkata Knight Riders wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik lauded Kohli for his reply.
"Loved Virat's reaction. But more importantly, so hard to maintain calm when such silly questions are being asked. After such a pressure-filled match, good on Virat to maintain his composure," wrote Karthik on Twitter.
Chopra used a famous meme reference from the movie Jolly LLB and tweeted, "This is phenomenal. Kaun hai yeh aadmi?? Kahan se aate hain yeh log? Kohli’s reaction is priceless."
