Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan was surprised to find out when a wrong quote on his name was going all over the media. The statement was doing rounds claiming Rashid said that he will marry only once he wins the World Cup for his national team.
"Not till I win a World Cup for the team. I am not getting engaged or marrying before that,” the statement was reportedly made during an interview of Rashid with 'Azadi Radio'.
Rashid has denied it in a recent chat with AFP, and he clarified, “Actually, I was so shocked when I heard this because, to be honest, I never made a statement that I will marry once I win the World Cup."
"I just said that in the next few years I have more cricket and three World Cups (the 2021 and 2022 Twenty20 World Cups and the 50-over World Cup in 2023) so my focus will be on cricket rather than on getting married," he added.
Rashid was appointed as captain of Afghanistan for the 2021 T20 World Cup. But he stepped down from his position after he was not consulted by the ACB during team selection for the ICC tournament.
Although Rashid isn't the captain, he still has a huge responsibility on him being among the best spinners in the world. He understands that the spinners are going to play a crucial role in the T20 World Cup.
“I think it will be a spinners’ World Cup. The wickets here are mostly very good for spinners, so I think that’s the main reason most of the teams have more spinners in their attack," he said.
