Former India opener Navjot Singh Sidhu took a hilarious dig at ex-Pakistani pacer Mohammad Amir for his false predictions about the Indian team in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026. Sidhu dubbed Amir a "Dhongi Baba," mocking the former fast bowler's predictions that India would crash out of the tournament.
Mohammed Amir had already stated that India would have a difficult time qualifying for the T20 World Cup semi-finals, and he later supported England to defeat India in the Mumbai last-four match.
Amir maintained his position following India's triumph, claiming that England had lost the game due to a crucial missed catch.
“I talk about cricket. India played verywelld and complete cricket in this match after the entire tournament. We have to give credit where it is due. I did make a good prediction, but dropping a catch is not in my hands. If you drop the catch of an in-form batter, this is what happens.
The only difference between the two teams was Bumrah. If Harry Brook had taken the catch of Samson, this target would have been chased down by England with an over to spare,” Amir said on Pakistani show Haarna Mana Hai.
The comments came after India overcame England by seven runs in the semi-finals in Mumbai, setting up a title match against New Zealand.
In an Instagram video, Sidhu criticized Amir's frequent predictions that India will not advance in the tournament.
“People around us have a big habit of making fake predictions. If it comes true, good; if not, they just brush it off. If it works, they call it an arrow; if not, they say it was just a guess. And still, they continue to act like some kind of wise baba.
Honestly, I think such people are just fake babas. First, they said India wouldn’t even qualify, wouldn’t reach the semifinals. They claimed the West Indies and South Africa would go ahead. But the moment Sanju Samson made his comeback, both those teams were sent packing. And today they said England would win the semifinal, and England also got knocked out,” Sidhu said.
“So, my point is, predictions don’t decide these things. Matches are decided on the battlefield. You don’t earn a throne by begging for it. Empty vessels make the most noise. That’s the whole point,” Sidhu added.
