Pakistan suffered yet another defeat at the hands of India in an ICC events as they were hammered by 61 runs in the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Group A clash at R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on Sunday (February 15).

Ishan Kishan's sensational 77 off 40 balls on a slow Premadasa pitch was worth its weight in gold, propelling India to a highly competitive 175/7 after being asked to bat first.

In rely, Pakistan were bowled out for 114 in 18 overs as India made it 8-1 against the arch-rivals in T20 World Cups.

The outcome has left the Pakistan cricket fraternity heartbroken. The fans and former cricketers are calling for senior players like Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi to be benched for the rest of the tournament.

In fact, a report by PTI claims that the Pakistan management is set drop Babar and Shaheen from their next T20 World Cup match against Namibia after the duo failed to leave a mark against India.

According to the report, PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi conveyed his displeasure over the team's performance to team manager Naved Akram Cheema.

"The Chairman left the match early at the Premadasa stadium as it became obvious Pakistan were going to face another defeat to India," the news agency quoted a source as saying.

The source said Naqvi, through a senior PCB official, also conveyed to the manager that such performances in crucial fixtures were not understandable or acceptable.

As per the source, head coach Mike Hesson also addressed the players in the dressing room and told them that they had not played to their full potential.

"Late night the management think tank decided enough was enough and it was to bench Babar and Shaheen and try out Salman Mirza/Naseem Shah and Fakhar Zaman against Namibia on Wednesday," he said.

The source said that if the changes prove to be successful, Babar and Shaheen's World Cup would be over as the management is also keen give opportunity to young Khawaja Nafay in the middle-order.

Babar Azam’s struggles against India continued in Colombo. Pakistan’s premier batter managed only five runs off seven balls before being castled by Axar Patel. On the other hand, Left-arm quick Shaheen Afridi proved to be the most expensive Pakistan bowlers, conceding 31 runs in his two overs.

After the crushing loss to India, Pakistan sit third in Group A table. They will have to win the last group-stage game against Namibia to qualify for the Super 8s.
