India and Pakistan will play in a Group A game of the T20 World Cup 2026 on February 15, 2026, at the RPS Ground in Colombo. Both teams have done well till now, winning both of their first two games each.

There was a huge doubt on this game, given that the Pakistan government had earlier announced that Pakistan would not play India in the T20 World Cup as they stood in solidarity with Bangladesh. Bangladesh was removed from the tournament by the ICC after their repeated refusals to travel to India, citing security concerns.

Pakistan also refused to play India, and it was only after a meeting between PCB and ICC, where it was announced that Bangladesh would not be penalized, and one ICC event would be assigned to them before 2031, that the Pakistan government gave the green signal to play India.

Pakistan's interior minister and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi visited the Pakistan team and met the players at the Colombo hotel. Naqvi met with the squad members to bolster their morale ahead of the match and lauded their drive and dedication to the national team.  

The discussion was attended by skipper Salman Ali Agha, head coach Mike Hesson, and team manager Naveed Akram Cheema, as well as the entire squad and support staff. Also in attendance were PCB Chief Operating Officer Sameer Ahmed, PSL CEO Salman Naseer, and Director of Media Aamir Mir.

As the mood in the Pakistani camp seemed to be upbeat ahead of Sunday's match in Colombo, Naqvi was spotted having an extremely open conversation with the players.

Speaking to reporters on the India match, Naqvi predicted that Pakistan would maintain their strong start to the T20 World Cup 2026. With victories over the USA and the Netherlands, Pakistan is currently undefeated in the competition.

“Our team is in good form for the match against India. Insha’Allah, we expect a positive outcome,” said Naqvi.

“Pakistan greatly values its excellent ties with Sri Lanka. During the T20 World Cup, Pakistan is playing all its matches here in Sri Lanka. As our gracious host, Sri Lanka deserves our utmost respect and appreciation,” he added.

Reports have also stated that Mohsin Naqvi is also expected to meet key ICC officials, including chief Jay Shah, on the sidelines of the IND v PAK match.
