
South Africa and Afghanistan played an all-time classic T20 World Cup 2026 game in Ahmedabad on February 11, 2026. The two sides clashed in a Group D game at the Narendra Modi Stadium. South Africa had come into this game with a win in their first game, while Afghanistan had lost their tournament opener.
Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan won the toss and chose to bowl first. Quinton de Kock made 59, and Ryan Rickelton made 61 runs to put South Africa in a good position. However, Rashid Khan brought his team back into the game with their wickets. Dewald Brevis made 53, and David Miller made 20* as South Africa made 187/6 in 20 overs. Azmatullah Omarzai took 3/41 for Afghanistan.
In response, Rahmanullah Gurbaz starred with 84 with 4 fours and 7 sixes. Omarzai made 22, and Rashid Khan made 20 to take Afghanistan close. In the final over, Kagiso Rabada bowled a no-ball, giving Afghanistan a chance to tie the game, finishing on 187.
Fazalhaq Farooqi got run out coming back for a second run that would have won them the game. Lungi Ngidi picked 3/26 in 4 overs.
The first super over saw Azmatullah Omarzai and Rahmanullah Gurbaz opening, and Lungi Ngidi bowling. Omarzai hammered 2 fours and one six to take Afghanistan to 17 runs. In response, South Africa lost Dewald Brevis for 6 runs, but Tristan Stubbs made 10* in 3 balls to tie the first super over against Fazalhaq Farooqi.
South Africa batted first in the second super over, and Tristan Stubbs made 7*, and David Miller smashed two sixes to take the Proteas to 23 runs against Azmatullah Omarzai. Keshav Maharaj dismissed Mohammad Nabi early, but Rahmanullah Gurbaz hammered three sixes in a row to give South Africa something to ponder.
Needing another six off the last ball to win, Gurbaz only managed to hit the ball straight to David Miller at point. South Africa earned two important points by winning the second super over.
The cricket fraternity was left short of breath after seeing such an exciting game and then two super overs. They shared their excitement and lauded both teams on social media.
