Rohit Sharma, India’s 2024 T20 World Cup-winning captain, refused to give any advice to ace spinner Kuldeep Yadav ahead of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2026. India, along with Sri Lanka, will co-host the upcoming ICC T20 event from February 7 onwards.
The left-arm wrist-spinner's obsession with DRS is getting to be too much for Rohit, who has been Kuldeep's captain for a long time and even engaged in on-field disagreements and banter.
In relation to Kuldeep, Rohit has frequently erred. When he was captain, Rohit would frequently make bad DRS calls because of his bowler's excessive pleas. Most recently, Kuldeep erupted in a massive LBW appeal during the South Africa ODI series. Rohit rejected it from the slips even though he was no longer the captain. KL Rahul, the stand-in captain, backed Rohit.
“Koi advice nahi hai bhai sahab ko. Ball daal apna chup chaap. Aur peeche ja (No advice for the gentleman. Just bowl quietly. And please step back. You can’t appeal on every ball,” Rohit said on the Captain’s Road Map show to Jatin Sapru.
Rohit also discussed India's T20 World Cup playing combinations, emphasizing that while fielding two spinners in Kuldeep and Varun Chakaravarthy may be ideal, it will come at the expense of a fast bowler. Three pacers and two spinners may not be the winning mix for India.
“India’s biggest challenge will be how the management decides to play them together. You can only play them together if you’re only fielding two seamers,” mentioned Rohit.
India opens its T20 World Cup campaign against the USA on the opening day, followed by Namibia on February 12 and Pakistan on February 15.
