SA v IND 2023-24: Cricket fraternity reacts as India wins Cape Town Test by 7 wickets in one and a half days

India became the first Asian team to win a Test in Cape Town and leveled the series 1-1.

South Africa captain Dean Elgar won the toss and chose to bat first in his final Test match. However, Mohammed Siraj’s 6/15 and two wickets each by Jasprit Bumrah and Mukesh Kumar ensured that the hosts were bundled for 55 runs.

Rohit Sharma (39), Shubman Gill (36), and Virat Kohli (46) took India to a good-looking 153/4 at one stage in their first innings. But then South African bowlers demolished the Indian batting order, as the visitors lost their last six wickets for 0 runs and were bowled out for 153 itself.

This was the first time in Test history that a team has lost their final 6 wickets for no run in an innings.

Facing a lead of 98 runs, South Africa managed to end day one on 62/3, with 23 wickets falling on day one. On the second day, Aiden Markram starred with a brilliant 106 runs, as the hosts posted 176 runs. India needed 79 runs to win the Test match.

Yashasvi Jaiswal (28), Rohit Sharma (16*), and Virat Kohli (12) ensured that India won the Test with 7 wickets in hand and leveled the series 1-1. This was the first time any Asian side had won a Test in Cape Town. This Test also became the shortest match ever in history in terms of deliveries bowled at 642.

Mohammed Siraj was named the Player of the Match for his 6/15 and 1/31. Jasprit Bumrah (12 wickets) and Dean Elgar (201 runs) were named the joint Player of the Series.

The cricket fraternity lauded the Indian team for their clinical performance on social media platform X.
