The year 2023 was an emotion-filled roller-coaster ride for Team India. There were successes in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as well as in the Asia Cup, Asian Games and other bilateral competitions.
However, the team experienced a couple of massive heartbreaks by losing to Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC) final and the World Cup final.
2024 will also see the Indian team competing in a plethora of cricket series and tournaments. Hence, former cricketers Sunil Gavaskar and Irfan Pathan have pointed out where the focus of the Indian team should be for the future.
“You’re looking for the freshness and energy of the youth and you’re also looking for that you know wise, old, head, experience and sometimes temper…you need to have that combination for winning,” batting legend Gavaskar said in a video shared by Star Sports on Instagram.
In the same video, Pathan advised India to prepare a solid pool of fast bowlers to have an upper hand against some of the best teams in the world.
India endured an innings and 32 runs defeat in the Boxing Day Test at SuperSport Park, Centurion. As a result, they conceded an unassailable 1-0 lead to the Proteas in the two-match series.
India’s batting and bowling were not up to the mark in Centurion. While the visitors were bowled out for 245 and 131 across their two innings, they conceded 408 with the ball in South Africa’s only innings.
The ongoing Cape Town Test is the last match of India’s tour to South Africa and the tourists will look to level the series and kick-off the new year on a positive note.
