“I am going to go with…” Nasser Hussain picks this team as favourites to lift the upcoming T20 World Cup

The marquee event is slated to be held in the West Indies and USA from June onwards.

Nasser Hussain | GettyThe excitement for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 is increasing with every passing day. The marquee event is slated to be held in the West Indies and USA from June onwards.

While the showpiece tournament is still five months away, cricket experts have already started sharing their thoughts.

Former England cricketer-turned-commentator Nasser Hussain has also joined the bandwagon, opining that the Jos Buttler-led English side has the potential to win back-to-back titles.

However, Hussain has picked South Africa as a surprise package to clinch the coveted trophy for the first time.

"I have not thought too much about this actually...but I am going to go with South Africa," Hussain was quoted as saying by ICC.

He acknowledged England as the reigning champions but expressed concerns over their current form. Considering the competition will take place in the Caribbean, Hussain also acknowledged the competitive West Indies and Pakistan teams.

"I am going to go for South Africa versus England in the final," he concluded, basing his prediction on South Africa's impressive show in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 and the emergence of new talents through domestic T20 competition, SA20.

Hussain further mentioned that the return of key pacers like Anrich Nortje and Sisanda Magala will bolster South Africa’s chances in the upcoming T20 World Cup.

During the recently held ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, South Africa impressed one and all with their performances. They finished the league stage at the second spot with seven wins from nine matches.

However, the Proteas side once again failed to cross the knock-out hurdle, losing to Australia in the semi-final at the Eden Gardens.
