India all-rounder Shardul Thakur was hit on his left shoulder while batting at the nets in an optional training session at the SuperSport Park, Centurion on Saturday (December 30).
After the blow, it was speculated that Shardul might miss the New Year’s Test. However, the Indian camp in South Africa has reassured that the all-rounder is in perfect condition, Cricbuzz reported.
The report further stated that Shardul is doing well, with no recommended treatment or scans by the medical staff.
"Shardul continued to bat soon after being hit. There is no concern at all. No problems," a source was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
Earlier, news agency PTI reported that Shardul Thakur copped a blow on his shoulder after a ball bounced awkwardly from a good length from a delivery bowled by Vikram Rathour. He was not able to sway away from the delivery due to the extra bounce and was seen wincing in pain at the nets.
Thakur, however, withstood the pain and continued to bat at the nets. After finishing the batting session, he was treated by the physio with an ice pack.
The seam-bowling all-rounder was quite ordinary in the opening Test as he conceded 101 runs in 19 overs. He registered scores of 24 and 2 across the two innings in Centurion.
India suffered an innings and 32 runs defeat in the Centurion Test to concede an unassailable 1-0 lead in the two-match series.
The second and final Test of the series is slated to get underway on January 3 in Cape Town.
