SA v IND 2023-24: Gerald Coetzee ruled out of second Test against India in Cape Town

The Cape Town Test is slated to get underway on January 3.

Gerald Coetzee | GettySouth Africa have copped an injury blow as their emerging pacer Gerald Coetzee has been ruled out of the second Test against India, slated to get underway on January 3 in Cape Town.

Coetzee is the second Proteas player to be ruled out of the New Year's Test. During the first Test in Centurion, skipper Temba Bavuma suffered a left hamstring strain and he is set to miss the final Test of the series.

“Fast bowler Gerald Coetzee will miss the second Betway Test against India after developing pelvic inflammation during the first Test at SuperSport Park,” Cricket South Africa confirmed the development through a post on 'X'.

Gerald Coetzee broke into the limelight with impressive performances in the recently held ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 in India. The right-arm quick claimed 20 wickets in the global event from eight games at an average of 19.80. He finished the tournament as the fifth leading wicket-taker.

During the opening Test against India, Coetzee bowled 16 overs in the first innings and returned with the figures of 1/74. He need to bowl only five overs (0/28) in the second innings as India folded for 131 in 34.1 overs to lose the Test match by an innings and 32 runs inside three days.
