The Indian cricket team might have suffered an embarrassing defeat in the first Test match against South Africa, but star batter Virat Kohli managed to achieve a historic milestone in Centurion.
Kohli scored 38 and 76 runs in the Boxing Day Test match against South Africa in Centurion, where Team India suffered a crushing defeat of an innings and 32 runs on Thursday, December 28.
However, the former Indian captain managed to create history in international cricket by scoring 114 runs in the Boxing Day Test against South Africa, as Kohli became the first player in the world to score 2000 runs in international cricket in seven different calendar years.
Kohli has now a total of 2048 runs to his name in all three formats of the game in 2023, and with this telly, the dashing right-hander became the first batter to score 2000 runs in seven different calendar years in international cricket in 146 years of cricket since records have been maintained.
Earlier, Kohli had scored more than 2000 runs in the years 2012 (2186 runs), 2014 (2286 runs), 2016 (2595 runs), 2017 (2818 runs), 2018 (2735 runs), and 2019 (2455 runs). Kohli is the first cricketer in the world to achieve this feat.
Kohli ended 2023 as the second-highest run-getter in this calendar year. He is only behind the young batter Shubman Gill, who amassed 2154 runs in 2023.
