India pacer Mohammad Shami might not take part in the upcoming Test series in South Africa as he deals with an ankle injury. India is to play two Tests- on December 26 in Centurion and January 3rd in Cape Town.
As per the Cricbuzz report, Shami will not be traveling to South Africa with the rest of the players picked for the Tests. The last batch of players, including skipper Rohit Sharma, is scheduled to leave for Johannesburg on Friday (December 15), but the 33-year-old veteran pacer will not be among them.

Apart from Rohit, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, R Ashwin, Navdeep Saini, and Harshit Rana will be flying out to South Africa on Friday via Dubai. The BCCI selectors are yet to name a replacement for Shami, with the belief that one of the pacers from the T20I and ODI squads can be included in the Test squad.
While announcing the Indian squads for the South Africa tour, the BCCI had made it clear that Shami was undergoing treatment.
The BCCI statement on Shami had stated, "Mr. Mohd. Shami is currently undergoing medical treatment, and his availability is subject to fitness."
The pacer had been suffering from ankle pain, and it was learned that he had carried the World Cup workload despite the pain, particularly experiencing discomfort while landing on his right foot at the delivery point.
