Former England skipper Michael Vaughan on Saturday (February 29) slammed Team India for their poor show in the ongoing Test series in New Zealand.
After coping a 10-wicket hammering in the first Test at Basin Reserve, India had a disappointing start to the second Test in Christchurch.
On the opening day, Virat Kohli and company got bowled out for a paltry 242 in 63 overs. The visiting batsmen were once again found wanting against the moving ball. Hanuma Vihari was the top-scorer with 55.
In response, the Kiwis finished the day at 63/0 as the Indian pacers struggled with their lengths and lines.
After the stumps on Day 1, Vaughan took to Twitter and wrote: “NZ giving India a lesson in how to play in conditions where the ball moves through the air.”
The ex-English batsman also went on to state that this Indian team, despite being the No. 1 side in ICC Test rankings for the last 3-4 years, can’t be deemed as great unless they start winning in New Zealand and England.
“They can’t be regarded as a great team till they start winning in places like NZ & England,” he further wrote.
It is worth noting here that India have failed to win series in South Africa and England after achieving the No. 1 Test ranking in 2016. While they became the first Asian side to win a Test series in Australia in 2018-19, it came in the absence of top batsmen David Warner and Steve Smith, who were serving the ball-tampering suspensions at that time.
