After impressing everyone on his Test debut in Wellington against India, New Zealand pacer Kyle Jamieson understands there is no scope for complacency as he still has a long way to go in process of becoming a more robust cricketer, who can serve his country for long.

The 25-year-old tall right-arm fast bowler got into the playing XI only because of Neil Wagner's paternity leave but did enough with his pace and hostility in Black Caps' ten-wicket victory to ensure he isn't swapped out even when the more experienced speedster returns for the next Test in Christchurch, starting February 29.

"I'm still a long way off what I want to be as a bowler, with the stuff I'm starting to work on and in the next year or so I'm going to make massive strides," Jamieson told reporters. "Whilst I am very happy with where I'm at now I think there is still a lot more to come."

Jamieson used his height to great advantage, pushing Indian batsmen back with the bounce he generated as part of the set-up before eventually dismissing them off the fuller ball.

The youngster, however, credited the "experienced heads" around him in skipper Kane Williamson and veteran pacers Trent Boult, Tim Southee for his early success.

"I actually was quite relaxed, I probably surprised myself a little bit over the last couple of week of how relaxed I have been," he said.

"I guess that is the beauty of coming into this team, there are so many experienced heads and so many good cricketers that I just go out and enjoy myself."

"Day one was pretty clear on what we were to do with the pitch conditions and in that second innings was how we were trying to attack, into the wind, down breeze, what's the pitch telling us, what's the batters giving us," Jamieson added.
