Virat Kohli walks off on day 3 of first Test after getting out to Trent Boult for 16 | GettyThe Indian captain Virat Kohli has now gone 10 innings in international cricket without scoring a century for his team. His poor run with the bat continued as he fell for 19 runs in the second innings of the ongoing first Test against New Zealand in Basin Reserve, Wellington.

The Indian team finds themselves on the cusp of their first defeat in the ICC World Test Championship after a total batting failure in the first innings, which led them to be bowled out for just 165 runs. Ajinkya Rahane top-scored with 46 runs, while Kohli fell for just 2, fishing for the ball outside the off-stump.

In the second innings, Kohli was out trying to pull a short delivery from Trent Boult and was caught by wicketkeeper BJ Watling. India ended day three on 144/4 still 39 runs behind New Zealand’s first innings’ total of 348 runs.

Kohli has not been in the pink of his form in international cricket, in the last couple of months with the bat and it was evident in the way he was dismissed. His highest score in the last 10 matches was 89 runs, which he had scored in an ODI against Australia in Bengaluru.

His continued failure to score big runs for India when most needed led to the fans on Twitter criticizing him and one even called Steve Smith way better than Kohli. The Twitterati were in no mood to let Kohli get away with another failure and shared their frustrations on social media.
