The third and final ODI between New Zealand and India was played at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui, with India facing the threat of a whitewash in the format, for the first time since 1989 when West Indies had routed them 5-0.

New Zealand won the toss and chose to bowl first, with Kane Williamson coming back to leading the Kiwi team. India meanwhile got Manish Pandey in for Kedar Jadhav. Mayank Agarwal and Virat Kohli’s poor run with the bat continued, as they fell for single-digit scores. Shaw made 40 runs.

However, the innings saw prosperity with KL Rahul (112), Shreyas Iyer (62) and Manish Pandey (42) doing the bulk of work in the middle order as India managed 296/7 in 50 overs. Hamish Bennett picked 4/64 in his 10 overs.

In reply, Guptill (66) and Nicholls (80) added 106 runs for the opening wicket. Williamson (22), Taylor (12) and Neesham (19) fell in trying to up the run-rate a bit as Chahal picked three wickets for 47 runs in his 10 overs.

However, Tom Latham (32*) and Colin de Grandhomme (58* in 28 balls with 3 sixes and 6 fours) added 80* runs for the sixth wicket and took the team to a 5-wicket win and whitewashed India for the first time in 31 years.
