The fifth and final T20I between New Zealand and India was played at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui. Virat Kohli was rested for this game and Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bat first. Ross Taylor became first New Zealand and third male player to play 100 T20Is.
Sanju Samson got another chance and wasted it again, scoring just 2 runs. Meanwhile, KL made 45 and Rohit made 60 (retired hurt) in 41 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes. In the end, Shreyas Iyer’s 33* and Pandey’s 11* took India to 163/3. Scott Kuggeleijn picked 2/25, while NZ captain Tim Southee went for 52 runs.

In reply, India got a good start with Guptill falling for 2 and Munro making only 15. Tom Bruce got run out for a duck, but Seifert (50; 3 sixes and 5 fours) and Ross Taylor (53) took the game by the horns against Indian bowlers, adding 99 runs for the fourth wicket. They brought their team back into the game, as Shivam Dube was hit for 4 sixes and 2 fours, giving away 34 runs in the only over he bowled.
With 66 runs needed off the last 10 overs, New Zealand must have felt that they were in the driver’s seat. But then Seifert fell to Saini and Mitchell was clean bowled by Bumrah for 2. Shardul Thakur then took the wickets of Santner and Kuggeleijn in the same over, while Bumrah removed Southee with a brilliant yorker to keep New Zealand to 141/9.
At the end with 21 runs needed off the last over, New Zealand finished on 156/9 and India won the match by 7 runs and the series 5-0. For India, Bumrah was the star with 3/12, while Shardul and Saini picked two wickets each.
Cricket fraternity was all praises for the Indian side on Twitter, which ruthlessly demolished the New Zealand side in their own backyard.
