NZ v IND 2020: “It was disappointing not to cross the finishing line,” Kane Williamson after series loss

Kane Williamson scored a career-best 95 runs.

Kane Williamson scored a career-best 95 runs | GettyNew Zealand lost yet again in a super over in T20Is and this time also lost the T20I series against India. This was the Indian team’s first-ever series win in New Zealand in the format and they did it in style. They literally snatched victory from the jaws of defeat, by first tying the match and then winning the super over dramatically.

Kane Williamson must be a heartbroken man, as he single-handedly took his team to the cusp of victory, scoring a magnificent 95 runs with 6 sixes and 8 fours. However, neither could he complete his century, nor could he finish the match, which went down into the super over.

Williamson scored a six in that over as well, but in the end, Rohit Sharma hit two sixes in two balls with 10 runs needed to win the super over and the match.

NZ v IND 2020: Third T20I - Statistical Highlights

Talking in the post-match presentation, Williamson looked dejected and said, “Super overs haven't been too successful for us so we needed to be a little bit better to win it in regular time. A great game of cricket, India again showed their experience in a crunch situation. It is a really important experience for us to take from and move on. We bowled well after they got off to a superb start.”

There was something in it for the bowlers but both sides maximized shorter side of the boundary towards the scoreboard and made a very good game of cricket. Very disappointing after coming off from an effort like that. It was nice to spend some time in the middle and build some partnerships because starting on this deck wasn't easy. It was disappointing not to cross the finishing line,” he added.

The next match will be played in Wellington on January 31.
