NZ v IND 2020: Virat Kohli breaks this MS Dhoni record for India in T20I cricket

Kohli broke the great record while batting in the third T20I versus New Zealand in Hamilton.

Virat Kohli | GettyIndia skipper Virat Kohli continues to rewrite history books, breaking records after another, with the latest seeing him go past the great MS Dhoni in the list of captains with most runs in T20I cricket for their countries. 

Kohli went past Dhoni while playing his knock of 38 runs in 27 balls in the third T20I versus New Zealand in Hamilton on Wednesday (January 29).

Dhoni held the record previously with 1112 runs from 72 matches at an average of 37.06. 

It took Kohli only 37 innings to break the record of his former captain. 

He is now third in the overall list of captains with 1,126 runs at an average of 45.04 and a strike-rate of 142.71 behind only second positioned Kane Williamson (1,165 runs at 31.48) and numero uno Faf du Plessis (1,273 runs at 37.44), both of whom pace their innings at a rate significantly less than Kohli. 

Kohli is also the top run-getter in the history of T20I cricket, making 2,783 runs at an average of 51.53 runs and strike-rate of 138.2, with 24 half-centuries.
