Virender Sehwag has a special message for Shreyas Iyer after he saw India through in a difficult run-chase in New Zealand.
Team India began their New Zealand tour with a scintillating victory in the first T20I after chasing 204, their third-highest overseas run-chase. The Eden Park in Auckland is a high-scoring ground and everybody expected the hosts to score big. However, 204 was not an easy total to chase.
After the early dismissal of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul (56 off 27) and Virat Kohli (45 off 32) kept the Indians in the fray. Mumbaikar Shreyas Iyer came in to bat at No. 4 with the score reading 115/2.
The youngster remained calm throughout the run-chase and there were no signs that it was his first international game in New Zealand. He batted with Kohli, and then Manish Pandey to take India to the target with an over to spare.
Iyer was also given the ‘Man of the Match’ award for his unbeaten knock of 58 runs off 29 deliveries. Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag wished Iyer in his typically humorous manner from his Twitter handle.
He wrote, “Shreyas ko kaafi Shrey jaata hai. 204 Chase karna har kisi ko nahi aata hai. Great win and full on entertainment. Kohli, Rahul doing business as usual but very impressed with the temperament shown by @ShreyasIyer15. #NZvsIND”
