India defeated New Zealand in the first T20I at Eden Park, Auckland on Friday. The Men in Blue chased down 204 with the loss of only 4 wickets and one over in hand. It was Shreyas Iyer who took the finishing role and did the job for his team. Iyer scored 29-ball 58* runs in the opening game to take India 1-0 up in the five-match series.

Coming out to bat at number four, Iyer had to make sure he does the job as India had lost two set batsman Virat Kohli (45) and KL Rahul (56) while in space of 8 balls.

Shreyas stitched up a partnership of 62 runs with Manish Pandey (14*) and took the team over the line.

The Man of the Match revealed he learned the art of finishing from skipper Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Talking to Chahal TV, Iyer said, "It feels good to finish the match and that too by hitting a six."

"We needed one important partnership, the ground was small and in four overs 50 can also be made on this ground, so we decided one boundary an over and then bowler also comes under pressure.

"When you hit a six to finish a match, the feeling is special. My aim is to always finish games whatever time I spend on the pitch. We have players like Virat bhai, Rohit bhai who finish games and staying with them helps you learn," he added.
