The second T20I between New Zealand and India at Mount Maunganui got underway despite the threat of rain on Sunday. The first match of the three-match series at Wellington was already washed out on Friday.
New Zealand captain Kane Williamson won the toss and chose to bowl first. Hardik Pandya captained India and revealed that Ishan Kishan and Rishabh Pant were picked as openers, while Shreyas Iyer was also included in the XI, along with Yuzvendra Chahal.
The absence of Sanju Samson in the playing XI caused quite a furor on social media with fans criticizing the team management for benching the talented player.

Rishabh Pant couldn’t do much at the start, scoring only 6 runs, while Ishan Kishan made 36 in 30 as the innings was interrupted by rain for some time. Suryakumar Yadav was the batter who led from the front.
Shreyas Iyer, who returned to the Indian team, looked good against spinners hitting a six and a four, scoring 13 runs, but when Lockie Ferguson came onto bowl and bowled a few bouncers to the Mumbai batter, he was pushed onto the back foot.
On the 4th ball of the 13th over, Iyer, who was deep in his crease expecting a short ball, tried to push the delivery onto the leg side and in the process, his heel touched the base of the stumps, causing the bail to fall down.
Iyer dejectedly had to walk back to the hut for 13 runs in 9 balls.
