Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal are currently engaged in the Duleep Trophy 2025 semi-final for the West Zone team against Central Zone. This game is being played at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground B, Bengaluru.
Much of the focus has been on Shreyas Iyer, who was controversially overlooked in India’s squad for the Asia Cup 2025 tournament. Iyer had performed well for India in the 2025 Champions Trophy and then led the Punjab Kings to the IPL 2025 final. Iyer had led from the front with 604 runs with a strike rate of 175.07.
Iyer had an opportunity to overturn the selector's decision by playing big knocks for West Zone against Central Zone in Bengaluru, but the 30-year-old right-handed Mumbai batsman did not perform well in either inning. Iyer last played a Twenty20 International match for India on December 3, 2023, against Australia in Bengaluru.
As the No. 5 batter in the first innings on Thursday, September 4, he was only able to score 25 runs from 28 balls. On Sunday, September 7, Saransh Jain dismissed him for 12 runs from 14 balls.
Iyer will now be seen in action for India A in the two multi-day matches against Australia A in Lucknow. The two red-ball matches are scheduled from September 16 to 19 and from September 23 to 27.
On the other hand, Yashasvi Jaiswal, who had made just 4 runs in the first innings, did well in the second. Jaiswal hammered 64 in 70 balls with three fours and as many sixes.
Jaiswal was also not picked in the India squad for the Asia Cup 2025 and was only named in the reserves. He wasn’t named in the India A squad for the red-ball series against Australia A.
Ruturaj Gaikwad, who made 184 in the first innings, only managed to score 16 runs. He faced 23 balls and slammed two sixes during his stay at the crease.
