India spinner Ravi Bishnoi has expressed shock at the manner in which Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli silently retired from Test cricket. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who had retired from T20Is in 2024, called time on their Test careers in May this year.
Since India's disappointing tour to Australia, there has been a lot of speculation, but few people anticipated the end to occur off the field. The fact that the veterans did not say goodbye to the format in front of the spectators saddened many, and the BCCI soon came under fire.
India spinner Ravi Bishnoi stated that the way and timing of Kohli and Rohit's departures astounded him.
"It is actually shocking, because you always want to see them retire from the field. For such big legends, you want them to leave while still being on the field; that looks much better. And what both of them have done for India, in my view, there is no one even close," Bishnoi said on the Game Changers podcast.
Bishnoi also indicated that such greats of the game should get the proper farewell from ODIs, whenever Rohit and Kohli decide to call time on their 50-over careers.
"You want them to get a good farewell, but maybe they will get that in ODIs as well, whenever they leave, whenever they want to. Because no one can tell you when you will retire. But it was shocking when both of them retired, because suddenly you feel like two spots have become empty. Who will come and fulfill that?" he added.
Kohli and Rohit are anticipated to make their comeback to international cricket during the ODI tour of Australia in October. Though none have yet to respond to the rumors, there are many who believe that the tour will be their last time playing international cricket.
