Rohit Sharma, India’s ODI captain, has not played any competitive cricket since the IPL 2025. However, reports have stated that the Mumbai batter is set to return to competitive cricket in a bid to prepare for the Australia white-ball tour.
RevSportz has reported that Rohit Sharma will play in the three-match one-day series between India A and Australia A in September and October, in a bid to get ready for the Australia challenge down under.
India A and Australia A will clash in three one-day games in Kanpur’s Green Park Stadium on September 30, October 3, and October 5. Australia A squad will feature the likes of Jake Fraser-McGurk, Todd Murphy, Aaron Hardie, and Tanveer Sangha, among others. And Rohit Sharma wants to use this as a prep for the Indian team’s Australia tour.
India will travel to Australia for three ODIs and three T20Is in October and November. The three ODIs will be played on 19, 23, and 25 October at Sydney, Adelaide, and Perth, respectively.
The 38-year-old, who has retired from Tests and T20Is, last played international cricket during the Champions Trophy final against New Zealand.
Various other media reports have stated that the upcoming Australia tour might be the final outing for Rohit Sharma in India colors. As the squad begins preparing for the upcoming ODI World Cup in 2027, the BCCI is allegedly scheduled to have talks with the seasoned batting sensation about his future.
The board would like to begin the transition phase in a one-day format as well, and Rohit will be forty by then. Shreyas Iyer is the most likely contender to succeed Rohit as the next ODI captain, according to a recent article.
