India batter Prithvi Shaw has revealed that cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar has backed him to stage a strong comeback and still believes in his potential.

Shaw’s stocks are on the decline in recent years. He was left out of Mumbai’s squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Ranji Trophy in the 2024-25 season

While Shaw was part of Mumbai's Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy-winning campaign, he failed to produce any noteworthy performance. Adding to his woes, the 25-year-old went unsold in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction last November.

In an interaction with News24, Prithvi Shaw opened up on receiving support from Sachin Tendulkar amid tough times in his career.

Shaw, who shares a healthy bond with Sachin’s son Arjun Tendulkar, mentioned that he recently met the batting maestro, who urged him to get back on the right track.

"Sachin sir knows about my journey. Arjun and I have been friends since we were 8-9 years old. We’ve played together, grown up together. Sir was also there sometimes. I had a word with him a little while ago too. Hardly 2 month ago. He was practicing at the MIG. And I was there too. I spoke to him then too. When things go awry and you drift away, you need that mentor, who can light a spark into you,” Shaw said.

Moreover, Shaw narrated how Tendulkar encouraged him, saying that he still has a long life ahead of him.

“He still believes in me. He said 'Prithvi, I still believe in you, and I'll continue to do so'. Because he has seen me grow up. Even today, he tells me 'Sahi track pe aa ja, jaise pehle tha' (Come back on the same track as earlier). Everything is possible in the next 13-14 years. So he believes in me and that means a lot," he remarked.

Meanwhile, Prithvi Shaw is planning to play for another team in the domestic cricket as he’s written to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) seeking a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to switch his teams ahead of the upcoming domestic season.

In a letter to the MCA, Shaw revealed that he was presented with an opportunity to play under another state association and feels it will further contribute to his growth and development as a cricketer.

It is worth mentioning here that Shaw announced his arrival to international cricket with a century on Test debut. However, he failed to build on it and also went downhill fitness-wise. As a result, the Mumbaikar fell behind in the packing order. The last time he played for the country was in July 2021.
