Rohit Sharma called time on his Test career last month, leaving a significant void in the Indian team ahead of the all-important England tour that marks the beginning of the new WTC cycle.
Having retired from T20Is last year, Rohit will now focus solely on the One-Day International format. However, there is no clear indication of how long he intends to continue in the 50-over format. The next major ODI tournament is the 2027 World Cup, scheduled to be held in South Africa.
Rohit’s last ODI appearance was on March 9, 2025 against New Zealand in the Champions Trophy 2025 final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, where he scored 76 runs from 83 balls to help India clinch the coveted title.
Meanwhile, a report published in Hindustan Times, quoting a source as saying, claims that the BCCI had expected Rohit Sharma to retire from ODIs after the Champions Trophy triumph.
According to the report, there have been no discussions between Rohit and the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee over his ODI future.
“Quite frankly, a lot of us thought Rohit wanted to move away from the ODI format after winning the Champions Trophy. There have been no discussions between Rohit and the selectors over his ODI future," a BCCI source told Hindustan Times.
Rohit Sharma was last seen in action during the IPL 2025 season for Mumbai Indians. He amassed a total of 418 runs in 15 matches with the help of four half-centuries.
In the Eliminator clash against Gujarat Titans at Mullanpur on March 30, Rohit completed 7000 runs in the IPL and also became the first Indian batter to smash 300 sixes in the cash-rich league.
