Moeen Ali, a former all-rounder for England, praised Rohit Sharma's contribution to Test cricket, stating that the right-hander was once the world's most gifted player. He did remark that Rohit didn’t work on his fitness like Virat Kohli, but remained as effective.
Ahead of the forthcoming England tour, Rohit, who recently turned 38, declared his retirement from Test cricket. After playing 67 games and scoring 4301 runs, including 12 hundreds and 18 fifties, the right-hander decided to end his Test career.
In India's last two series against Australia (away) and New Zealand (home), Rohit put up a terrible Test performance. He only managed 31 runs in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, and Rohit's form was so poor that he chose to skip the last Test match in Sydney.
“Rohit was a more natural player in terms of, like, amazing to watch. Like a proper gift given to him. When I say natural, everything looks a lot smoother. He was a top player. There was a period when he was probably the most talented player in the world, naturally.
Like probably didn’t do the work in terms of fitness and stuff as Virat, but still as effective. Would probably hit the ball further," Moeen said on the Beard Before Wicket podcast.
Rohit Sharma, who has retired from T20Is as well, will continue to play in ODIs and captain the Indian team as well.
