Virat Kohli climbs further in ICC ODI batting rankings after Champions Trophy 2025 heroics

Virat Kohli of India has climbed one spot in the latest update of the ICC ODI batting rankings, thanks to his heroics with the bat in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025. India qualified for the final of the tournament, by defeating Australia in the first semi-final in Dubai on March 4.

Kohli was named Player of the Match against Australia in the first semi-final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, making 84 runs off 98 balls, including five fours.

Kohli is presently the tournament's third-highest run scorer, with 217 runs in four innings at an average of 72.33 and a strike rate of 83.14. Kohli restored his spot in the top five following his unbeaten 100 against Mohammad Rizwan's Pakistan.

Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma, dropped two places down to No.5 in the rankings. Henrich Klaasen went to No.3 while Shubman Gill created a huge gap between him as the no.1 ranked ODI batter and second spot holder Babar Azam. Shreyas Iyer also moved one spot up to no.8 in the ODI rankings.

Matt Henry of New Zealand moved up to third place in the bowling rankings after bagging five wickets against India in Dubai. Mohammed Shami moved up three places at No.11 with eight wickets in four matches, including a five-wicket haul against Bangladesh.

Axar Patel established himself as a solid all-rounder after rising 17 places to No.13 in the ICC ODI all-rounders rankings. In the Champions Trophy, Axar has 80 runs from four matches at an average of 26.66 and five wickets with an economy rate of 4.51.

Azmatullah Omarzai, an Afghanistan all-rounder, continued to make tremendous gains in the cricket world. After being named the ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year for 2024, Omarzai has risen to become the world's top all-rounder in the 50-over category, surpassing Mohammad Nabi.
