Australia spinner Matthew Kuhnemann reported for suspect bowling action in Sri Lanka series

Kuhnemann played a critical role in Australia’s recent Test series victory over Sri Lanka.

Matthew Kuhnemann | GettyCricket Australia (CA) on Wednesday (February 12) confirmed that spinner Matthew Kuhnemann, who played a critical role in Australia’s recent Test series victory over Sri Lanka, had been reported for a suspect bowling action.

In order to determine if his action is legitimate, left-armer Kuhnemann, who picked up 16 wickets when Steve Smith's team won the two-Test series in Sri Lanka this month, will need to submit to mandatory tests.

"The Australian team was notified of the match officials' referral following the second Test against Sri Lanka in Galle and will support Matt through the process of clearing this matter," CA said in a statement.

Since making his professional debut in 2017, Kuhnemann has played a total of 124 games, including 55 BBL matches, four ODIs, and five Tests.

"This is the first time in those eight years of professional cricket that his action has been questioned," CA said. "Cricket Australia will liaise closely with the International Cricket Council and independent experts in line with ICC regulations."

A player's bowling arm may flex up to 15 degrees, but any more than that is prohibited by the cricket laws.

According to the Australian media, the 28-year-old will probably undergo testing at Brisbane's Centre of Excellence, and the results will be sent back to the ICC.

If his action is found to be illegal, he will be banned from bowling until it is changed and a follow-up assessment is completed.
