CT 2025: “Nothing will motivate him more,” Sunil Gavaskar backs struggling Virat Kohli to regain form in Champions Trophy

Kohli’s form has been a major topic of discussion ahead of the Champions Trophy.

Virat Kohli | GettyVirat Kohli’s form has been a major topic of discussion ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, slated to be held in Pakistan and UAE from February 19 to March 9.

The star batter hasn’t registered a big score since his unbeaten hundred in the Perth Test against Australia last November.

While Kohli didn’t feature in the first ODI of ongoing series against England in Nagpur due to knee issues last week, he was dismissed for only 5 runs in the second game in Cuttack on Sunday (February 9).

Despite Kohli's current poor form, batting legend Sunil Gavaskar has backed the Indian stalwart to deliver in the upcoming Champions Trophy.

Gavaskar is eagerly waiting to know how Kohli will celebrate after winning the coveted title as he performed the Gangnam dance when India won the tournament in 2013.

"Kohli is a big-match player, and nothing will motivate him more than the opportunity to score runs and win the Champions Trophy for India. After the last Champions Trophy win in 2013, he celebrated with the Gangnam dance, which was the rage way back then. This time, if he helps India win, we could be in for another unique celebration from him," Gavaskar wrote in his column for Sportstar.

Under Kohli's leadership, India played the final of the 2017 Champions Trophy at the Oval, where they lost to Pakistan by 180 runs.

Gavaskar reckons that the current Indian team is firm favourites to win the marquee event. The Men in Blue will play all their matches in Dubai.

"That’s why India, apart from the talent that they have, will start as firm favourites to win the ICC Champions Trophy once again. The spirit in the team is very good, as could be seen by their enthusiastic cheering of their teammates who won individual awards at the recent annual BCCI awards function. A team that is laughing with each other is a happy team that will invariably try and play for each other," he wrote.

India will open their Champions Trophy campaign on February 20 against Bangladesh at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
