Prithvi Shaw’s stocks are on the decline in the last few years. Recently, the 25-year-old was left out of Mumbai’s squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Ranji Trophy.
While Shaw was part of Mumbai's Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy-winning campaign, he failed to live up to the expectations. The opening batter managed to score only 197 runs in 9 matches with the best score of 49.
Adding to his woes, Shaw Prithvi went unsold during the IPL mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia last November.
Amid the setbacks, India batter Shreyas Iyer has expressed his confidence in Prithvi Shaw's abilities, but issued a warning regarding his work ethic.
"Prithvi Shaw also started on a great note. He's got a great blessing of timing the ball and scoring runs at a great pace. And all of us in the team feel that he is blessed with that phenomenal talent. So, he just has to focus on his work ethic and everything else will follow," Iyer said in an interview with The Indian Express.
"He is God-gifted," Iyer added, showing how highly Shaw is still rated in Indian cricket.
Last month, Prithvi Shaw vented out his frustration after being left out of Mumbai's Vijay Hazare Trophy squad. He shared a story on Instagram, where he expressed his disappointment and highlighted his impressive List-A career stats.
"Tell me God, what more do I have to see? If 65 innings, 3399 runs at an average of 55.7 with a strike rate of 126, I'm not good enough. But I will keep my faith in you and, hopefully, people still believe in me, because I will come back for sure. Om Sai Ram," Shaw wrote.
It is worth mentioning here that Prithvi Shaw announced his arrival to international cricket with a century on Test debut. However, the he failed to build on it and also went downhill fitness-wise.
As a result, the Mumbaikar fell behind in the packing order. The last time he played for the country was in July 2021.
