The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has broken its silence on Prithvi Shaw being dropped from the Mumbai side for the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT 2024) squad.

Shaw had posted a story on Instagram, sharing his List-A stats and stating that what does he has to do more to get a chance.

Even captain Shreyas Iyer had issued a stern statement after Mumbai won the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 trophy.

He stated: "He needs to get his work ethics right. And if he does that, (the) sky's the limit for him. We can't babysit anyone, right? He has played so much cricket. Everyone has given him input. At the end of the day, it's his job to figure out things for himself. And he has also done it in the past. It's not that he hasn't.”

Shaw was earlier left out of Mumbai's Ranji Trophy squad for similar reasons in October after which he was given a specific fitness program to work on at the MCA Academy.

Now an MCA official has shed light on the issue asserting that the temperamental batter has flouted disciplinary norms regularly and is "his own enemy".

The official also claimed that Mumbai played with 10 fielders as Iyer had to hide Shaw due to his poor fitness, discipline, and attitude.

"In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, we were playing with 10 fielders as we were forced to hide Prithvi Shaw. The ball would pass near him and he would barely be able to get to it. Even while batting, we could see he was troubled reaching to the ball.

His fitness, discipline, and attitude are poor and it is pretty simple, there cannot be different rules for different players. Even the seniors in the team have started complaining about his attitude now," an MCA squad said to PTI.

During the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Shaw frequently missed training sessions after arriving at the team hotel at "six in the morning" after being out most of the night.

The teenager has justified himself by saying that Shaw, who has gained a lot of attention for his off-field activities and not doing his talent credit by focusing on his game, will not get any favor from such social media posts, the official added.

You would be wrong to think such posts on social media would have any impact on the Mumbai selectors and the MCA," he added.

Shaw was earlier left out of Mumbai's Ranji Trophy squad for similar reasons in October after which he was given a specific fitness program to work on at the MCA Academy.

"He is not following that as well properly," the official said.

I'll tell you one thing. No one is Shaw's enemy. He is his own enemy," the MCA official stated.

Prithvi Shaw made his India Test debut at the age of 18, months after winning the U19 World Cup in 2018. He scored a century on debut, against the West Indies, but since then fitness and injuries have halted his career. Even his ODI and T20I career failed to take off.

One of the biggest jolts came when Shaw, who had put his base price at INR 75 lakhs, went unsold at the recent IPL 2025 mega auction.
